Dining Area Design & Planning

פינת אוכל 1

The dining area is far more than a place to eat. It’s where homework gets done, where Friday night dinners happen with the extended family, and where the first cup of coffee starts the day. Its design needs to accommodate all of these simultaneously.

The most common mistake is choosing a table that’s too large and dominates the space, or too small to seat the whole family at a holiday meal. Dimensions matter, and they require precise calculation based on the average number of diners and the variety of occasions the table will serve.

What’s worth knowing:

  • Allow a minimum of 90 cm between the table and the wall for comfortable movement in and out of seating.
  • Pendant lighting above the table creates a strong visual focal point, intimacy, and a dramatic pool of light.
  • Consider how the dining area may shift, expand, or change function over time – and plan the lighting infrastructure accordingly to cover all scenarios.
  • Chairs that invite long, comfortable stays – not ones that send people rushing back to the sofa.
  • Materials chosen carefully so the table doesn’t need to be covered most of the time.

A well-designed dining area is more than a piece of furniture. It is the place where the home comes together and real connection happens – and that is worth getting every detail right.
